After a few months, I suddenly remembered I still have another blog! LOL. I wouldn’t say I became busy after some time, I guess I just didn’t have enough stuff to share. In any case, here I am trying to revive this blog, starting with something that became my recent habit—jogging.
I posted something at the start of the year that one of the things I would like to do is to lose weight. I’ve seen some of my friends lose weight. At first, I’m skeptic, thinking if I could really do something like that. It could be done, they are the proof of it, it’s just a matter of setting my mind into it.
I started back in April, after I transferred to a new place in Makati, with my starting weight at almost 230lbs. I opted to start slow since I haven’t had any decent, self-motivated exercise since I was probably in highschool—my Running class in college is not counted since it wasn’t really self-motivated, I don’t even know if I had motivation back then. I had to take one step at a time, starting with walking and brisk walking for an hour or more after work in the afternoon, just to get myself to sweat. Then, I would gradually incorporate jogging into my routine, but not to over-exert myself since I know that jogging is a high-impact exercise and it’s not really advisable for something of my stature.
At that point, I wanted to instill the discipline of getting up, putting on my running shoes and finishing my course, even if it took me more than an hour to do it. I knew to myself that it would take a lot of time before I could see the benefits of what I was doing and I knew for a fact that I need a lot of patience. I had to endure the pain and there were times I became sick because of over-exertion.
Later on, as my body is able to adjust, I can now concentrate more on the jogging itself and how I can maintain my pace without stopping. The more I focus, the more I am able to perform better on my exercise. I just needed to find the best, most comfortable time for me to perform my exercise and challenge myself further to improve.
One of the things that I liked about jogging is the fact that it removes all the stress that I have. Call it weird but sometimes it is some sort of my escape when I happen to think too much of my problems. It helps me focus. By the time that I’m done with my exercise, I’d be feeling better. What started as a way to discipline myself ended up being one of the things that I love to do.
